$2 on Griffith to Win | Alex + Megan
Alex and Megan are a classic tale of country boy meets city girl, except in Kentucky that doesn’t always make them so different! ;) Alex grew up playing football in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and Megan in the bustling metropolis of Lexington, learning how to bet on horses at the track before she could drive a car. They met a bar during finals week and went on their first date to W.T. Young Library on campus- but quickly learned they had many mutual friends, a love of adventure and the outdoors. This adventurous couple loves to travel, hunt, fish and enjoy their favorite Kentucky hotspots. On a whirlwind trip to Washington D.C. last summer Alex got down one knee under the 4th of July fireworks and popped the question (#’Merica).
Keeneland was an obvious venue choice for this Kentucky loving couple. June 10th was summer hot and breezy, making the shade the perfect temperature and cold beer easy to keep in hand (as Alex and his guys can surely agree with ;)) Guests signed the couple’s bourbon barrel (as in an entire barrel, not just the top!) as they made their way into the Keene Barn at Keeneland that afternoon. Their ceremony was officiated by a childhood friend of Alex’s, short and sweet (the ceremony, not the officiant) ;) It was incredibly sweet, followed by tears and hugs as the processional filtered in to the reception space. The reception was GORGEOUS. Filled with flowers, sunlight and the fabulous band Superfecta keeping the dance floor alive throughout the night. Megan held on to Alex’s thumb while they shared their first dance (I love noticing little things like that) and both speeches by the matron of honor and best men had the audience laughing and crying (sometimes at the same time). After a fiery sunset, Megan’s dad took to the stage for a song as did the couple for their first duet as husband and wife. It’s obvious that these two have family and friends who aren’t afraid to dance! A sparkler send off concluded the celebration and A+M drove off into the night.
From Megan’s first email to me, I knew we’d be wonderful friends! Both her and Alex are so easy to feel instantly relaxed with and they truly light up around each other. It’s been so much fun getting to know them over the last year and documenting their wedding day was such a blast. Alex and Megan, I hope you all love the way I captured your day and that you had an adventurous honeymoon in St.Lucia! <3
